If we take out a decent dictionary and look up the origin of the word vitamin, we may notice that the name itself reveals a lot about the value and importance of vitamins.
For the word vitamin begins with the Latin word vita = life.
Vita = Life
Vitamins indeed give life.
If one consumes them in insufficient quantities, in quantities less than what is actually necessary, then their life will sink to an ever-lower level.
And in the complete absence of vitamins, there can be no life at all.
If an organism is forced to be completely deprived of even just one vitamin that it needs, its fate will inevitably be sealed.
As a little teaser, I’m delighted to quote the wise words of one of my role models, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist Albert Szent-Györgyi:
„A vitamin is a substance that makes us sick if we do not consume it.”
